What
is Head Start?
Head
Start is a Federal program for preschool children from low-income families.
Children who attend OWCAP Head Start participate in a variety of educational
activities. They also receive free medical and dental screenings, have
healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in
a safe setting.
To
qualify for Head Start you must meet the Federal
Income Guidelines, be receiving public assistance, or be one of
the allowed 10% of children who exceed income guidelines.

How

What
can the OWCAP Head Start program offer my child?
OWCAP
Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally,
socially, emotionally, and physically. The Head Start staff recognize
that, as parents, you are the first and most important teachers of your
children. We welcome your involvement in activities, and will work as
partners with you to help your child progress.
What
can OWCAP Head Start offer my family?
OWCAP
Head Start offers you a sense of belonging, other support services,
and a chance to be involved in activities to help your whole family.
Where
is OWCAP Head Start located?
OWCAPs
primary Head Start site, housed within the Agency, is based in the heart
of Ogden at 3159 Grant Avenue, Ogden, Utah.
Child
Care classes and double-session classes (half-day morning or afternoon),
are held at various collaborative satellite centers. Click on Head
Start Locations to see the various sites and their offered classes.
What
would my childs schedule be?
Double-session
Head Start classes operate 3 ½ hours per day on a four-day a
week schedule. Head Start/Child Care classes run full day, 5 days a
week.

What
will my child be learning at OWCAP Head Start?
The
OWCAP Head Start curriculum is based on the Creative Curriculum for
Early Childhood, a framework curriculum created around understanding
the way children learn through interaction with their physical and social
environments.
The
Head Start focus is to work with children and families to enhance their
literacy skills and to ensure that children enter kindergarten ready
to learn.
The
OWCAP Head Start also teaches children anger management skills through
the daily use of the Second Step Violence Prevention Curriculum.

What
kind of community partnerships exist with OWCAP Head Start?
Because
of OWCAPs proximity to Weber State University, Head Start has
been able to garner strong volunteer support, including free health
screenings for children from university nursing students and staff.
The
OWCAP Head Start program has a highly involved community and is constantly
forging new or stronger relationships with other area agencies and service
providers.
Who
should I contact with a classroom issue or problem?
If
you have a problem, please try to resolve your issue with the classroom
teacher first. If additional help is needed, contact the Education Supervisor
for that site, and finally the Program Manager.
